Common questions about window film

Straight answers to what people ask us most. If yours is not here, call or email and we will answer it.

Before you buy

What does window film actually do?

Most film goes on the inside of the glass you already have (bird film goes on the outside) and changes what comes through it. Depending on the film, that means less heat and glare, up to 99% of UV blocked, privacy, glass that holds together when it breaks, or glass birds can see. Each of our service pages explains one kind of film in detail.

Do you tint car windows?

No. We only work on windows and glass doors in homes, cottages and businesses.

Will film make my rooms dark?

Not unless you want it to. Architectural films range from nearly clear to quite dark, and our premium nano-ceramic films cut heat and glare while keeping a clear, non-mirrored look. We bring samples so you can see them on your own windows before you choose.

Can I still see out?

Yes. With architectural and one-way films the view out stays clear in the daytime. Frosted film is the exception: it blocks the view in both directions, which is the point of it.

Will my windows look like mirrors from outside?

Only if you choose a reflective film. Our premium architectural films reflect about 9% of light, so from the street they look like ordinary windows.

Why reflective film behaves differently at night
How much does it cost?

It depends on the film and how much glass there is, so we quote each job. Quotes are free, and you get them in writing with the film options and prices side by side.

Do you need to see my windows to quote?

Nearby, we come and look at the glass ourselves. Further out, photos and rough measurements are usually enough for a quote.

Install day

How long does installation take?

Most homes are done in one day. Larger homes and commercial buildings vary with the amount of glass.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the area we work in, cut the film to fit edge to edge, and clean up before we leave.

What happens after it goes on?

We check every pane with you, explain the short curing period while the film settles, and register your warranty with the film manufacturer.

Living with film

How long does window film last?

The warranty comes from the film manufacturer: lifetime on residential installs, for as long as you own the home, and 15 years on commercial installs. We register it for you on install day.

Does it block UV?

Yes. Our films block up to 99% of UV, which is the main cause of faded floors, furniture and artwork.

Will it lower my energy bills?

It can. Less solar heat coming in means your air conditioning works less in summer, and some films also help hold warmth in during winter. How much you save depends on the glass, the direction it faces and the film.

Can film be taken off later?

Yes. Decorative and frosted films in particular are easy to remove and replace, so a business can rebrand or a home can change its look without new glass.
